And now we're on to Hackett's final album.  Not sure why they thought putting out a 2nd album in 1976 was a good idea but here we are.

Evident from the get go is how much they let Tony Kayne write here.   The keys are front and center.  One for the Vine is a great example of this.  The first half is boring as hell keyboard that eventually picks up into another keys heavy section (faster paced but still not great).  The whole album feels like a solo act at times.

Which really detracts from the album as a whole.  Kayne is decent but he's not INTERESTING.  The extended keyboard parts just drag the album down.

Its no wonder this album drove Hackett off.  He's barely present here.  Sure you can hear him on Eleventh Earl of Mar and In That Quiet Earth, but most of the time he's so buried he might as well not even be in the mix.

And the sequencing is terrible.  One for the Vine is boring so what better song to follow it up with than an acoustic ballad?  Or, how about back to back instruments?

Your Own Special Way has potential.  Its got a pleasant airy quality to it, the chorus is good, but it has no business being 6 minutes long.   Cut it in half and it'll be a great song.

Probably their best decision was keeping the last 3 songs separate.  They feel like one track, bur Unquiet would have dragged the whole thing down.  Instead I can skip that and just listen to the good parts.

3 red and two green, this album is pretty hit or miss.  Kayne dominates this album to its detriment.  This lacks bite, it feels like theyre just sleepwalking at this point.

3/5
